Chinese police have arrested three suspects who have stolen assets worth 600 million juan or $88 million through retaliation, state media reported, under which cyber criminals attacked Bitcoin holders and other virtual currencies.
Police in the northern city of Xian began investigating in March when a victim named Zhang complained that hackers had taken control of his computer to steal $15m worth of digital currency, Shaanxi Daily reported.
The transfer of units provided police with a virtual trace, which led them to a suspect named Jou in the central province of Hunan.
Jou's communications led to two supposed associates. In all, three suspects are thought to have stolen 600 million of their own by punishing the computers of individuals and companies.
In February, an official Chinese publication announced plans to eliminate all digital currency trade in the country by blocking access to foreign sites and removing relevant apps from app stores.
