She was killed by a bomb in a car near her home in October last year. She wrote on her blog extensively for the country's leading politicians and their corrupt relatives.
One of her sons, Paul, said her three dogs were killed and also had efforts to burn down the journalist's house.
Our pet dogs were killed. They were poisoned.
We grew up with this and it was no secret that my mother received these threats,” told the BBC.
Family lawyers, who live in London, have submitted their requests to a legal document submitted to the Montenegrin government Thursday.
Malta has repeatedly said it is doing everything possible to bring the killers to justice.
Three suspects -- brothers George and Alfred Degiorgio and their friend Vince Muscats -- were arrested during a December police operation.
They were charged with murder and pleaded not guilty at a court hearing. They're still in custody.
