More than eight years after a plane crashed in the western part of Russia that caused the death of Poland's president at the time, Moscow declared today that it would allow Polish authorities to probe the ruins again.
Officially, the incident has been described as a pilot's mistake due to extremely dense fog, while according to Poland's conspiracy theory, Russia may have been responsible for the plane crash, the ATSH writes.
The Polish representatives will examine the remains of the Soviet plane Tu-154 for four days next month in co-ordination with Russian specialists”, said a statement by Russian federal investigators.
The crash of the plane near the Russian town of Smolensk in April 2010 killed 96 people, including that of the Polish president, Lech Kaczynski, as well as other senior officials.
According to the Polish Committee for Investigations of Aeronautic Accidents and Incidents, “The direct reasons for the crash of the plane has resulted from falling below the minimum altitude in atmospheric conditions that have hampered visual contact with land”.
