Meet the Island That Has No Crime or Police

The island of Santa Cruz, on the San Bernando Archipelago, Colombia, is one of the world's most populated countries. Unlike other islands, it is no place for tourists, since they would have nowhere to stay. The only tourists come from a nearby island, where there are hotels. They leave with the motto for a visit [...]
Colorful houses have long been inherited into families, and there are no inhabitants on the island who were not born there.
None of the inhabitants are born outside the island, and they boast that they have neither crime nor police.
The island is about two football fields, and it holds about 1,200 inhabitants.
Yu Nad, one of the residents who lived there for the rest of his life, says there are actually about 900 inhabitants. We get upset when the media always say we're more crowded than we really are, he says, and he explains that he would never change his life on that island to anything in the world.
There's no crime here, he says. We don't have the police, we never had, and we don't need the <x0.
Residents live in about 115 homes, and the land to build others is over. You Nall admit they're worried about the future, because buildings can't make them higher, and there's no other expansion. Yet, he says that life on the island is very beautiful.
Where is the other place in the world where the police are not needed? I wake up every day under the sound of waves and have view of the sea. I wish I could live anywhere else”, he says.
The Colombian authorities are also concerned about the future of the island, but their concern stems from rising sea level. But residents do not want to hear these concerns.
Alejandro Alzatte, hotel manager “Punta Faro” on the neighbouring island, says floods have increased and residents do not want to hear about the problems ahead, because they would have to think about moving, and that's the last thing they want, because life like Santa Cruz can't be found anywhere else.
