Fabrizio Romano claims the Croatian star was Jose Mourinho's top priority this summer, but the player refused to leave Juventus after having held a meeting with Max Alleggri.
Morainho had promised Mandzukic a raise. Croatia currently wins 3.5m euros in white seasons, but Premier League giants would pay more than 5mm euros in the season.
Allegre, however, has told 32-year-olds that it will be a very important part of the club this season and that Cristiano Ronaldo's arrival will not reduce the minutes in the field.
Now Juventus can offer Mandzukic a new contract.
