That's the decision US Federal Judge Emmet Sullivan made a few hours ago.
The judge has agreed with the American Union for Civil Freedom that immigrants representing in a federal indictment should not be expelled, while their cases are pending.
During the trial, Sullivan became angry at reporting and said one of the asylum seekers was in the process of deportation, according to The Washington Post. He threatened that Prosecutor General Jeff Sessions would be despised if his order was not followed, the report added.
This is very wild,” said Sullivan, according to the Post. “Someone who waits for justice to decide for his request to be forcibly expelled without justice for him, writes the Post.
“I am not at all happy about this,” he went on, adding that “was not acceptable”.
The indictment was brought by immigrants who were mentioned only by their nicknames in court: Grace, Mina, Gina, Mona, Maria, Carmen and her daughter J.A.C.F. and Gio. According to the Post, Carmen was in the middle of deportation.
After the hearing, Sullivan issued an emergency order to prevent the expulsion of an immigrant, as he thinks he has broader authority in this case.
The indictment filed by ACLU is challenging a recent decision by sessions to make nearly impossible victims of domestic violence and gangs to qualify for asylum in the US. This decision was followed by implementation guidelines from the National Security Department that almost immediately began to potentially remove thousands of asylum seekers at the southern border.
