Chitarovovic was declared “Honourary Citizen of this city's Municipal Council with motivation: “The outstanding personality of regional and wider policy, the pattern of inspiration, humanity, solidarity, and the representative of a friend who appreciates and values Albanians' contribution to freedom by building bridges of co-operation, tolerance, understanding and peace among peoples. ”

Meta addressing those in attendance, stressed that the visit to this city involved in the World Heritage of U NESTO and the announcement of Croatian President “Honourary Citizen” from Berat is a very significant indicator not only of ancient ties between two countries and peoples, but also an illustration of excellent relations and close friendship between Albanians and Croats.

While Croatia's President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic thanked for the honour he received, feeling himself already co-citizen with all the Greeks, underlined the fact that friendship and co-operation between Croatia and Albania, among Croats and Albanians, is stronger than ever.
