US President Donald Trump has said that “is possible” his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin this summer, until he has continued to push ahead the idea that Moscow will return to the group of seven most industrialized states (G7).
At a meeting with reporters at the White House on June 15th, Trump has blamed his predecessor in the presidency, Barack Obama, for allowing Russia to annex Crime from Ukraine.
Russia was excluded in 2014 from what was then called G8, due to Moscow's decision to annex the crime and support the separatists east of Ukraine.
Before the launch of the G7 summit in Canada this month, Trump has shocked his allies when he said member nations “should allow Russia's return” to the elite group.
Trump has told reporters that Obama is guilty of allowing Russia to invade the Crimea.
“Putin has not respected President Obama... President Obama has lost the crime, only to know”, he has indicated.
Trump's statements of an evental meeting with Putin have come after the Russian leader said 10 June that he would like to meet Trump whenever the United States is ready to hold the summit.
Trump has long sought to regulate relations with Moscow, though his administration has continued Obama's policy to target Russia with sanctions.
Democrats and some Republicans at the US Congress have called on Trump to continue pressure on Russia. (REL)
