US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong have arrived in Singapore for their historic meeting.
Trump flew aboard Air Force One hours after Kim Jong had landed on the ground, along with his aides and runner bodyguards.
Their meeting, the first between a leader from North Korea and a incumbent American president, will be held Tuesday on the island of “Resort Sentosa”.
Trump named the meeting a never-ending chance for peace and said both leaders were in unknown territory. The US hopes the summit will initiate a process in which Kim Jong will give up nuclear weapons.
The two leaders have had an extraordinary relationship, over the past 18 months, with exchanges of insults and threats of war before changing ours and heading towards meeting face to face.
The U.S. wants North Korea to give up its nuclear weapons irreversibly and could be verified internationally. Only when these steps are taken will there be removal of sanctions.
But that does not mean that Shba expects to reach a final agreement in Singapore.
Trump himself described the meeting as a possibility of recognition and has said it would be a process. Analysts say Kim, winning the prestige of a meeting with the world's most powerful leader, has already scored victory.
They also question his possibility of giving up nuclear weapons because he has worked so hard to secure them.
