Serbia and Montenegro lead states in the region for civilian possession of weapons. According to recent statistics made by a headquarters organisation in Geneva, which handles small arms, these two countries have 39.1 weapons per 100 inhabitants.
Bosnia and Herzegovina has 31.2 weapons per 100 inhabitants, while Macedonia has 29.8. Kosovo ranks behind neighbouring countries, with 23.8 weapons per 100 residents.
Better than Kosovo It is Albania, which is the last of the neighbouring states, with 12.03 firearms for 100 residents.
According to organisation “Small Arms Survey”, the number of possession of small arms on the part of the world's citizens is increasing. It is estimated to be more than 1 billion firearms worldwide, which is an increase of 17% over the past 10 years.

Over 857 million (85 %) weapons are in civilian hands, 133 million (13 %) are in soldiers' hands, and 23 million weapons (2%) belong to police. The United States of America ranks first in 2017 as belonging to civilian weapons.
Americans also conducted the 2007 polls, possessing 270 million weapons, which were translated into 90 weapons for every 100 inhabitants.
After the U.S. with 393 million weapons, it's India with 71 million firearms, and in third place it's China with 50 million weapons. The U.S. also leads in the number of weapons for 100 residents, almost 121 firearms per 100 inhabitants.
Yemen is in second place with 58.2 guns per 100 people. Indonesia, Japan, and Malawi have fewer than one firearms per 100 inhabitants.
As for weapons held by law enforcement, Russia is estimated to have the largest 2.4 million weapons, followed by China with 1.9 million. For small arms' military reserves, Russia is again the first with 30.3 million. The U.S. Army is estimated to own a million small weapons.
