All Mexican city police have been detained under suspicion of involvement in the murder of mayoral candidate Ferandano Angels.
The 64-year-old was shot dead by unknown people outside his property. More than 100 politicians killed in all of Mexico before the July 1st elections, the BBC reports.
The country's 27 police officers and the local secretary for security were detained by federal forces to investigate their involvement in the case.
Angeles was a successful businessman with little political experience. He was seen as being unable to endure poverty, inequality, and corruption, and he decided to compete.
Mexicans will head towards the ballot boxes next Sunday.
