Greek opposition leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis has submitted a no-confidence motion to the government of Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras to parliament today.
The government has long lost the trust of the Greek people and is unable to defend national interests”, chief correspondent Mitsotakis has said, referring to the Macedonia name agreement, which he called harmful to the country.
The 3-day session started Thursday night and ends on Saturday night. The no-confidence motion will only be accepted if approved by at least 151 of the 300 deputies of the Greek Parliament, while Allied parties in government, Syriza and Independent Greeks have a majority of 153 deputies.
If Prime Minister Tsipras fails to pass, the opposition will not have the right to bring back a new motion for six months.
Mitsotakis has submitted the no-confidence motion after the last four-day session of discussions, when parliament overwhelmingly approved the bill with preconditions for closing the Greek reform programme's recent assessment after about nine years of economic crisis passed.
