The Netherlands Parliament has voted for failing to give the green light for starting negotiations on Albania's membership in the European Union.
According to the overwhelming majority of Dutch deputies, Albania's “results are insufficient to take such a step”.
The Dutch Parliament urges governments not to express themselves in favour of the European Commission's proposal for Albania, as it says Albania has failed to meet the five conditions set by Brussels, while emphasising it on fighting corruption and crime.
“Noting that Albania clearly does not meet the five conditions defined under this progress report, because there is no history in legal reform, in fighting corruption and in fighting crime. Note that on the basis of this progress-report cannot open accession negotiations. The Dutch government should not vote in favour of the EC's proposal for opening negotiations”, said in the motion adopted in the Netherlands House of Representatives, drafted by Van Helvert, Omtzigt, Anne Mulder, Van der Gaf.
