A conflict between German Chancellor Angela Merkel and her biggest opponent, Interior Minister Horst Seehofer, who has said that “with this woman cannot work”, can cost Kosovo now when it is expected to decide for visa liberalisation.
But, what is the conflict between these two German politicians, at a stage when a visa recommendation for Kosovo is expected. The interior minister's word as a major burden is known in Berlin on this issue, as this is what this minister faces issues of refugees and asylum.
According to the DA, the German government has denied news of the possibility that Chancellor Angela Merkel will seek a special summit of the European Union for Refugees. “There are no plans for a special EU summit”, government spokesman Stephen Seibert said. The call of such a summit is in the competencies of EU institutions. “Of course the German government is holding intensive consultations on this issue with different EU member states and the EU Commission”, the spokesman said.
Meeting with Counte and Macro
German Gazea “Bild” has announced during Sunday that Merkel plans to seek a special summit, which would be held before the regular summit at the end of June, where the main topic would be the refugee crisis and steps to take in this direction. In particular, steps to be taken in countries most affected by the crisis, such as Germany, Austria, Greece and Italy. The paper quotes an Italian government spokesman with the words: “So far nothing has been decided, but we are in the planning phase. ”
The EU regular summit will be held on June 28th and 29th. Chancellor Merkel has warned of the possible signing of an agreement on returning migrants to EU countries where they have registered for the first time. On Monday she will also meet with Italy's new prime minister, Giuseppe Ctete, while with France's President Emmanuel Macron on Tuesday.
“Can't work with this woman”
The Chancellor is under great pressure, due to requirements for closing the borders and returning migrants previously registered to the EU country. Pressures in particular have been added by CSU chief, who is also German Interior Minister Horst Seehofer. He has demanded that migrants leave the border immediately and return where they have registered for the first time. Merkel must be declared by Monday for these demands. The CDU chief requires that an agreement be reached with other affected countries and the EU, not migrants leaving immediately. But Seehofer says he won't wait anymore.
Seehofer has stated, as the newspaper “says, that he is a sonntag” at an international meeting that he is skeptical of co-operation with the Chancellor. With this woman I can no longer work”, Seehofer was quoted as declaring at a meeting with other members of the government cabinet and representatives of CSU in Berlin on Thursday. The participants of this meeting say Seehofer has reiterated this statement twice. But he has not repeated this statement at the meeting with CSU deputies in Bundestag.
No one in CSU has interests to tear the Chancellor down from power”
In an interview with the Seehofer media, it's been promoted by compatible tones. No one in CSU is interested in ousting the Chancellor from power and coming out of the ruling coalition agreement”, he tells the newspaper “Bild am Sonntag”. Alexander Dobrendt claims that the word is not just about the attitudes of CSU. He said we need a new asylum system and debate on the identity issue with Union parties. Dobrint said they should engage not only in adopting laws but also in implementing them.
Seehofer will demand on Monday that CSU party chairmanship, which is in power in Barvari, approve a unilateral action and the removal of refugees from its borders. No objection to this request is expected from CSU. If the Interior Minister starts with implementing this plan, Chancellor Merkel will face an unprecedented political challenge so far. The Chancellor will either be forced to comply with those positions, or must dismiss the minister from his post. Seehoff's departure from the cabinet could even mean the end of the ruling coalition and the current government.
