Will air pollution again alarm us? Minister Resiti talks about Periscope

One of the biggest problems facing citizens during the winter was air pollution, which had reached alarming levels. In an interview for Periscope, Environment and Spatial Planning Minister Albena Resiti has indicated steps they will take to improve air quality. Reshimaj has shown [...]
Reshimaj has indicated that during the Sustainable Development Week, held from May 30th to June 5th, software has been launched that makes the presentation of air pollution level information from all air monitoring stations in all of Kosovo.
Resitij has mentioned other actions the Ministry has taken in the area of improving air quality.
I have sent to Government an action plan to protect the air from pollution, which has been approved. We have also processed the law on air protection that we expect to be approved in Government. We have proved that we are willing to face this challenge, which is a global challenge. Good step is we've taken responsibility. We already have an approved plan, a strategy on how we can affect lowering the level of air pollution in Kosovo. We have long-term action activities on this plan. One of them was the correct information about the air condition, thanks to the software that we launched. Citizens can soon get on their phones the program that tells them what the current air condition is”, Resitiy told Periscope.
On the other hand, it has shown that they are doing external monitoring of all operators operating in Kosovo, which increases air pollution levels.
“We are making external monitoring of all operators operating in Kosovo and increasing the level of air pollution. We're checking the filters on how they're doing, how functional they are. This increases transparency. Each operator has an internal team that is forced to report on the pollution level that causes it. But these groups weren't so funkyonal. However, external monitoring has now activated even these groups within operators. We haven't been so well received by the operators, but they realized it has to be done. There are times when it was reportedly incorrigibly, but measures were taken”, Resitaj said.
The minister has shown how two researchs are currently being done to verify the country's main air pollutants.
There are two researches in the action plan that are being done, to verify the main pollutants and to tell us exactly which pollutants it's most pronounced, because that's how we can create longer-term strategies. It's also becoming a comparison research with other countries. The preliminary results will be received in late June”, she said.
According to her, citizens have already become self-aware, and this will affect each and every one of them using coal fuel for heating.
The citizens have become conscious. Those families who have been able to find other fuel for burning have received it. Now they don't use coal. It's working on finding other heating alternatives so the coal can't be used. There is also the problem of communications, the emissions of gas from vehicles. The decision was made that cars older than 10 years cannot be registered. Even creating the ring in Pristina contributes to reducing traffic in some parts. It requires more rigorous control of the quality of the derivatives”, she added. /Periscopi
