Kosovo President Hashim Thaci has called for rapid expansion of the European Union in the Western Balkans.
“The enlargement of the EU in the Western Balkans has to do with preventing the influence of dangerous ideology and the influence of other anti-European and anti-Western powers”, Thaci said in an interview for the German newspaper “Handelsblat” (edition of Wednesday).
“under these circumstances, we hope to accelerate Kosovo's path towards Europe”.
“The EU has no account to hesitate in the Balkans, otherwise the influence of Russia” will increase, Thaci has warned, Koha.net broadcasts.
“The EU does not convert a black hole in the Balkans”, says Thaci, whose country, as this paper writes, is in the last place on the list of EU membership candidates from Southeast Europe.
The reconciliation is the key condition for future EU membership. Thaci, just days ago, signed the demarcation agreement with Montenegro. The neighbouring country, unlike Serbia, recognises Kosovo's independence.
“I am very interested in building normal relations with Serbia, on what the future of our country depends on, and we dare not complain about the past times, but work for the future”, President Thaci told the German newspaper, broadcast Koha.net.
“is not in Serbia's interest, but in the interest of the entire region to advance towards our bilateral relations, but one condition is inevitable for Serbia to recognise its neighbour Kosovo as an independent state”, Thaci concluded.
