Serbs confess NATO bombings in Nis: One leg was broken, I crawled for help

19 years ago, NATO aircraft had dropped hundreds of devastating bombs on Serbia's Nis. Fifteen people remained dead. But, as deutchewell writes, bombs are a problem for that settlement and people there even today, although the Government of Serbia has forgotten about it. On May 7, 1999, Gita Joviq had gone to [...]
On May 7th 1999, Gita Joviq had gone to work like any other day, despite the Serb regime's persecution and murder of Albanians in Kosovo, in an attempt to invade and ethnically cleanse Serbia's then province.
The consequences of Milosevic's fascist regime had partly been felt by Serbs, as NATO had been forced to bomb Serb military targets.
It was Friday, and she was at the end of the shift where she worked as a dental assistant.
“Was a dreary day”, 59-year-old Gita tells DW.
I heard planes launching bombs, but I thought they were going to fall somewhere else. Suddenly, I felt a great pain in my right leg. I did not understand anything at that point, but soon thereafter I realized that we were being bombarded. I saw a woman flying in the air”, she confessed.
She relates how her leg was broken and there was nothing left but bones.
“Call for help, crawl. At that moment I knew exactly what had happened. Then I took off my sock and saw only the bones. I realized there was nothing left on my leg. There was still the crack in the leg of the bomb. A colleague had heard my call. She didn't know me because I had become black all the way”, she says.
She had woke up the next day to realize that she would have to live for the rest of her life without one leg. He says he still has health problems as a result of what he had experienced.
NATO bombings in Nis had lasted ten minutes, and bombs were dropped in three places. /Periscopi/
