Iraqis are voting today in the first parliamentary elections since Baghdad declared victory over the Islamic state by removing the extremist group from much of the territory last year.
Prime Minister Haidar al-Abad, a Shiít who has tried to balance the influence of Washington and Tehran, is ahead by vote, according to public polls.
Obadiah's Victory Alliance had a major push in public polls following its single victory against ISIS.
Polls also show that voters are supporting Abad even after the Kurdish ban to declare independence last year. But Obadiah has criticism of economic development.
Badi's two strongest opponents are Nuri al-Maliki and Commander Hades al-Amir. Both rivals are just as close to Tehran as Obadiah.
