Macedonia's government remains under proposal “Macedonia's Ilindian Republic”

Athens cannot select elements from the name package that was reached in Sofia on the basis of its preferences, accept what it likes and reject what there are reactions to Greek opinion and political circles. This is the Government of Macedonia's response to the announcement by the cabinet of Alexis Cipras, where the name “Macedonia's Ilindian Republic” was almost rejected, but an admission of a name for general use was also welcomed. According to the government's second man, Sekerinska, the proposal is the basis for general and not partial agreements.

From the first moment to today, both Macedonian and Greek negotiators claimed either we will have agreements on anything or we will not have any agreements at all. The package is what can't be opened, and each one chooses what he wants, but we seek solutions that will answer all questions and that will be acceptable to both sides. After Cipras announced that the solution should be sought in geographical or time setting, Greek media write that Macedonia “top proposals” and the new “” return to the table. But according to Sekerinska, with this package proposal the goal of solutions has been reached, which will be positive both for Macedonia and for Greece, and provides opportunity for all to come out of this process to win.

We still consider that this package of solutions provides answers to the expectations and interests of Macedonia and Greece. Every breach of a package, you risk the whole package. Prime Minister Zaev said yesterday that the Ilindian Republic of Macedonia has been the accepted solution for both sides in Sofia. The name would be for general use, meaning constitutional changes. Macedonia, on the contrary, gains clear appointment of language as Macedonians, as well as maintaining international MKD/MKK codes. In contrast to Zaev, who yesterday publicly confirmed Sofia's agreement, Cipras was distanced from the name Republic of Macedonia, a solution for which he and his foreign minister were initially reconciled.
