With 66 votes for, 1 abstention, Kosovo Assembly deputies have voted the draft law on Pristina.
In the second review of this bill, a debate was sparked on the amendment number two to this bill, which defines Kosovo's capital Pristina, while Prizren as the historic capital of Kosovo.
Although there were objections to the number two LDK deputy amendment, Prizren's majority vote with this bill remains the historic capital.
The chairman of the Commission for Public Administration, Nat Hasani, has submitted and argued the report with recommendations, which said it is more important that after many years, in the Kosovo Assembly the Law for the Kosovo capital, Pristina, and the commission, according to him, has done research, reviews, analyses of this bill, which has also made research visits to regional centres.
And the Commission has concluded that this bill meets the conditions for approval in the Kosovo assembly.
“Based on the Constitutional definition that Kosovo's capital is Pristina, we are dealing with a capital law, we are not dealing with Pristina. Therefore, we are dealing with the capital and capital of Kosovo is Pristina, while the historic capital is Prizren. Prizren has been the capital all the time, so it is a historic capital”, Hasani has said.
LDK MP Driton Selmanaj said no one opposes Prizren being treated as super historic city, but does not belong in the draft law for Kosovo's capital, Pristina.
The Prizren deserves the highest possible respect, I live in that city. We have the law on protecting Prizren's historic centre, we can make other laws if you need them, but in the law on the capital, Pristina, you can now introduce the historic capital, there may be something else to be required tomorrow. I'm under the impression that he saw a literal analysis, he's getting some sort of euphoria of populism, nationalism, and once we have to laugh at ourselves what laws we're testing”, Deputy Selmanaj said.
MPs during the debate have also had remarks on the issue of security regulation in the capital, for the police.
