Government warns formation of Army with Law, international counter, analysts back

Days ago, Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj returned the hot topic of transforming the Kosovo Security Force into the military to question. Government first stressed that Kosovo cannot wait long on this issue, so transformation can happen even by law, which is being severely rejected by internationals, Tribuna Channel reports..
I am deeply convinced that if not through constitutional change, then through laws it will happen. 11 percent of KSF members are from ethnic communities, including northern Serbs. We don't figure it out every day of the month, but it's gonna happen. My final position was that with the KSF transformed into the army, no one loses”
The prime minister also stressed that transforming the KSF into the military does not mean taking KFOR's competencies.
Haradinaj's statement immediately countered the US Embassy.
In a statement to the media, the transformation of the KSF should happen only with constitutional changes.
We have urged the government to methodically work on the KSF transition and to continue with its campaign within Kosovo, as well as with international partners, to ensure maximum support for this transition. US continues to support the KSF transition through a constitutional amendment”
That Kosovo must form the army as soon as possible, says Professor Mazum Baraliu.
Baraliu calls the harsh reactions of Kosovo friends blackmail.
Kosovo is either an independent state or not. Kosovo has its own institutions. It is not right that one of the conditions and restrictions being made to Kosovo is also the transformation of the KSF. It's the assembly that decides on these things. I don't see the pressure of the international community as reasonable. Such pressures and reactions are blackmail. If there is no discomunication for constitutional changes, then with a completion-reform of the law it could happen”
We remember that several months ago President Hashim Thaci tried to convert KSF into the military through law.
At the time, this Thaci initiative was sharply opposed by the internationals, who called it unilateral action.
Following numerous pressures, Thaci withdrew from the initiative. What will happen to Ramush Haradinaj's initiative remains to be seen.
