Within the framework of regular meetings of the Government of Kosovo and the European Commission, today their second sectoral meeting between EC representatives is held, respectively, the MSA's sub-committee for Agriculture, Food Safety and Fisheries and the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Rural Development.
At this meeting, which is held within the framework of Dialogue for the Stabilisation and Association Process (DPSA), MBPHR Secretary General Kaplan Halimi said agriculture is one of the key sectors in the country's economy, so the Government of Kosovo has established agriculture as the strategic priority of the country's national development, which takes place in the European economic policy plan.
We as an institution have made constant efforts to address last year's findings in our annual work plan. This year we have focused on drafting legislation, in line with common EU agricultural policies, and we have been struggling to establish the professional capacities of our institution officials, as the satisfactory level of their competence will also bring productivity and quality to the work sequence”, Halimi said.
On the other hand, the EC representative, at the same time the deputy chief of European neighbourship in the European Commission's Enlargement Negotiations, Mary Teresa, expressed satisfaction with the report and details involved in it and in all efforts by MBPHR officials to succeed in the preliminary recommendations.
According to a MBPZHR communiqué, under the mandate of this ministry, in 2017 there were a total of 8 bills (the Food Bill, the Drug Drinking Bill, the Agriculture and the Rural Development Bill, the Bill for Seeds, the Bill on Fidanarian Subject, the Self-Religure Bill, the Forest Bill, and also for the implementation of laws adopted in 2017, by the UKPHR minister, 6 administrative guidelines have been adopted.
The first topic to be chosen as the priority discussion at this meeting was the topic about food safety in the country.
