Between 2009 and 2011 the company that deals with the stone breaking business “Geo Mineral” had won three tenders from the Kosovo Energy Corporation (KEK). In this company, which had won three tenders worth three million from KEK, it figures as owner of Idriz Thaci, the brother of President Hashim Thaci.
Se Idriz Thaci figured as a representative of “Geo Mineral” was testified in a document by the Kosova Petrol oil company, which the newspaper Life in Kosovo had provided in 2013. Idriz Thaci is still owner of the company “Geo Mineral” today.
And at the time when “Geo Mineral” won three tenders from KEK, Kosovo Energy Corporation Procuration official (KEK) was Nijazi Thaci, cousin of Idriz Thaci and Hashim Thaci, who was today appointed task manager of KEK's decision following Arben Gjukate's resignation.
The first tender that “Geo Mineral” company in which business owner Idriz Thaci gained it from KEK was April 21st 2011 and was worth 156 thousand euros. Meanwhile, the second tender that “Geo Mineral” was won by KEK was marked on 24 April 2009 and worth 205 thousand euros.
Another tender, worth 1m and 298 thousand 332 euros, the company “Geo Mineral” won it on December 7th 2009. The three tenders this company won by KEK amounted to over 1m and a half euros.
The tender involved building the new pipe line for ordinary water supply for Thermo plant “Kosovo B” from the Iber-Lepenc channel.
In 2013, in a proposal for the Living Journal in Kosovo, then director of the Anti-Corruption Agency Hasan Preteni had confirmed that an investigation would begin to prove under what circumstances the private company owned by President Thaci's brother had won the public procurements of the Kosovo Energy Corporation.
In addition to contracts with this public enterprise, Geo Mineral company had earlier supplied the consortium Bechtel Enka, contracted for construction of the Kosovo highway.
Nijazi Thaci, the cousin of Kosovo President Hashim Thaci, has been appointed today task manager of the Kosovo Energy Corporation (KEK).
The president's cousin was elected to head the main energy institution in the country with the KEK board's decision. At today's KEK board meeting, former director Arben Djukaj resigned.
Through a media announcement, the KEK Board announced that Djukaj's position would temporarily overtake Nijazi Thaci, who previously served as deputy director and in a period also as a procurement official at KEK.
