The American giant reached agreement with the German manufacturer on using the VW Transporter T6 model in autonomation tests, writes the New York Times.

The deal is part of the “titan” project, which Apple launched three years ago with the aim of developing and producing autonomous electric vehicles.

Under the deal with Volkswagen, the two companies with the assistance of the Italian firm Italdesign together will conduct joint modifications to the T6 Transporter model so that this car can be made with an electric engine.

Many original parts will leave the van, including the command board and seating, in order to make room for additional computers, sensors and large packets of batteries. The modified VW Transporter T6 will be tested on the streets of California.
