She has been struggling with cancer for over five years. But she's not giving up. Willingly, smile and dedication, Fatmire Ismaili, 47, from Pristina is able to overcome this disease.
But like the 47-year-old Pristina case, there are hundreds more. During the first four months of this year, at KKUKUK's Oncology Clinic, medical treatment for cancer has required 482 Kosovars.
The director of Oncology, Ekrem Hyseni, confirmed this.
He has explained the number of these cases. According to Hyseni, this figure, with new cancer cases, is lower than that of the first four months of 2017.
“During January months until April of this year at our clinic, 482 new cancer cases have been presented. Meanwhile, last year for the same period we had 511 cases of”, Hyseni told Gazeta. He has also explained the most frequent type of cancer that Kosovars are affected by.
The most frequent <x0).
But Kosovars suffering from cancer in the first two weeks of May are faced with a lack of chemotherapy therapy at the Oncology Clinic. In addition to this therapy, Oncology still faces a lack of certain therapies.
The first two weeks of the month May has been short supply, but after 10 May this supply has stabilised and now we have most of the products. And missing products have been informed by the fact that within the week they complete”, has further clarified Ekrem Hyseni, director of the Oncology clinic at QKUK.
And for the supply of therapy and medicine, for cancer patients has been declared chairman of the Commission for Health in the Kosovo Assembly, Besa Battiu. She has said the Ministry of Health seems to do more for drug supplies.
Buffiu has expressed concern over the large number of sufferers.
And what's that? The number for each year is increasing. We have about a thousand and 500 reported cases, and there are several other cases that have been dealt with outside the CKUK. We have expressed this concern on the commission. Patients' challenges to treating this disease in Kosovo are huge, lack of medicines and prices are high on the market. But we as a commission are confident that the health minister will handle the most of this”, Baftiu Express told him.
Nevertheless, the figures of Kosovars affected by cancer year-on-year are increasing. During the last year alone, some 1,000 and 500 Kosovars have been diagnosed with cancer, 334 more cases than in 2016.
The most frequent type of cancer turns out to be that of lung in men and breast cancer in women. However, research by the World Health Organization has already warned that with greater human care, cancer can even be prevented in many ways.
