DUI Chairman Ali Ahmeti, in an interview for the newspaper “The new era” has talked about government work, negotiations with Greece, and the political situation in the country. He has praised the ruling coalition's work as successful, adding that they have agreements with coalition partners that important topics for the state lead forward.
There are far bigger developments than I can stop now doing an analysis of the forward co-governance. However, at short points I can say it is a successful co-governance and there is reconciliation with coalition partners to push ahead with serious topics related to the future of the Republic of Macedonia, as well as dealing with the peace and stability of the region as a whole”, Ahmeti has indicated.
He has said the ruling coalition's priority is Euro-Atlantic integration, and, according to Ahmeti, during this period Macedonia has marked progress and is on track towards NATO and EU membership. He has suggested that resolving the name dispute with Greece would unlock the doors of NATO and the EU to Macedonia.
If this issue ends successfully, Ahmeti has said that Macedonia with automatism will receive an invitation for NATO membership as well as in June could open negotiations for EU membership.
“Sic is aware, we are in a very important process towards resolving the name issue. We are towards finding a compromise and reconciliation with our neighbour, Greece. All opinion knows that now the only obstacle to membership of the Republic of Macedonia in NATO is the unresolved problem with Greece. This presents us as an obstacle to opening Macedonia's membership negotiations in the European Union. So this government's priority has been to reach the settlement of the dispute with Greece because of the name. All parties are engaged and contributing as soon as this topic is closed, because this is how we contribute to strengthening peace, stability and security. This also contributes to NATO membership and the opening of EU membership negotiations”, he has declared.
Ahmeti has also talked about the progress the Albanian community has achieved in Macedonia. He has said that great work has been done in this direction, but much remains to be done. DUI leader has stressed that entering into force the law on the use of the Albanian language is a matter of time.
“Albanians in Macedonia have their own Albanian national flag, have two Albanian state universities -- one in Tetovo and one in Skopje -- have police officers and soldiers. It is also a matter of time when the Law will be decreed for official use of the Albanian language and when it will enter into force”, Ahmeti has said.
