After meeting with Kosovo President, European Council President Donald Tusk has spoken at a news conference.
He has said ratification of the Demarcation Agreement with Montenegro has drawn Kosovo closer to visa liberalisation, Periscopi reports.
I want to congratulate you on ratifying the border demarcation agreement with Montenegro. This has allowed Kosovo time to take another step to closer to the visa-free regime in the EU”, he said.
According to him, this is a testimony to interparty co-operation on Kosovo's overall interest issues.
I now know that you will not stop and give up, but you will continue with reform processes by respecting international vows and commitments”, Tusk said.
Even for fighting organised crime and corruption, Tusk has said a political consensus is needed in Kosovo.
“Fighting organised crime and corruption, to be effective, also requires a political consensus in Kosovo and your consultant, Mr. President Thaci, I believe we have the opportunity to continue with this spectacular and very positive policy, permanent commitments to building consensus in Kosovo, but also in the region for the most difficult questions”, said Tusk, presented Periscopi.
He has said that all of his colleagues in Brussels and at European top centres appreciate the achievements in Kosovo. In his view, this may even serve as a model for neighbors.
President Tusk indicated that at the meeting with Thaci they also discussed the current state of dialogue with Belgrade.
“Without normalising relations with Serbia and without full implementation and implementation of agreements I don't see how a change and improvement in relations with the EU can be made. I know this will be difficult but I'm careful and optimistic. After meeting with Vuciq and today with your president, I am much more optimistic”, he said.
And finally, Tusk has thanked Thaci and Vuciqi for their contribution to dialogue.
“Allow me to thank Thaci, as I thanked Vucinqi yesterday, for the personal capital they invested in dialogue”, said Tusk.
