US President Donald Trump confirmed on Wednesday that CIA Director Mike Pompeo has had a secret meeting in Pyongyang with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.
“The meeting went very well and a good relationship was created,” said Mr. Trump on Twitter. Summit details are being processed. Disregardation will be good for the world but also for North Korea! ” he wrote.
President Trump said yesterday that the United States and North Korea “have had talks at the highest level” but without providing details.
The Washington Post newspaper, which first announced the meeting between Mr. Pompeo and North Korea's leaders, said the CIA chief was in DPA during the Easter weekend, shortly after being appointed for the post of Secretary of State.
White House Press Secretary Sarah Hookebee Sanders said President Trump and the Korean leader have not spoken directly to each other.
Mr. Trump plans to meet with Kim Jong Uni in early June, with the goal of bringing North Korea to an end its nuclear weapons programme, which poses a growing threat to the United States and their allies in the region.
