The Serbian Party in Montenegro, the Serb National Council (SNS), has launched an initiative to annul the Montenegrin government's decision to recognise Kosovo's independence, responsible for holding a state referendum on the issue.
The initialists of this referendum, SNS President Momcilo Vuksanovic and Simon Djuretic, have today declared that Serbian Patriarch Irinej has also supported their initiative, which has been handed over to Montenegro's Parliament, reports Montenegro's public television.
As it becomes known, Patriarch Irinej, during his conversation with SNS party officials, has said that the “support of Albanians for Kosovo and Metohija is not in accordance with the centuries-old history of Montenegro and its people”.
We are a people. No one opposes Montenegrin independence, but support for Albanians for the capture of Kosovo and Metohija is incompatible with the centuries-old history of Montenegro and its people, and especially with the feeling of its rulers”, Irinej said.
