Tens of people have died in an alleged chemical attack on the Syrian town of Duma, located in the eastern Guta enclave, activists and volunteer teams have said.
White helmets and other activist groups have said that helicopter bombs that had toxic gases have been thrown over Dumas, causing people to become embarrassed.
There is still no independent verification of these reports, which Syrian state media and the Russian military have dubbed “fabricated”.
There are various reports concerning the number of people dead from this suspected chemical attack, while White Helms have reported that the number of victims is between 40 and 70.
In a statement, the American and Syrian Medical Association said 49 people died in the attack.
In this statement it has also been said that they have accepted more than 500 cases of people having respiratory problems and that patients smell similar to chlorine.
Meanwhile, the United States said they are closely mounting “disturbing reporting on the possibility of using chemical weapons by Syrian government forces and Russia, adding that they will be held responsible if chemical weapons attacks are proven.
The Syrian Government's <x0thjic in the use of chemical weapons to its people is not brought into question”, State Department spokeswoman Heather Neurte has said.
“Russia, with its steadfast support for the regime, ultimately holds responsibility for attacks on Syrians with chemical weapons. By defending Syria, Russia has violated its obligations to the United Nations”.
Neurte has added that the United States has called on Russia to end this reckless support and work with the international community to prevent further attacks with chemical weapons”.
An investigation by the Organisation for the Prevention of Chemical Weapons has come to the conclusion that Syrian government forces used chlorine as weapons in at least three cases. In April 2017, more than 80 people died in a sarin attack in the rebel - controlled city of Khan Sheikhoun. This UN organisation, for this attack, has blamed the Syrian government, but official Damascus has denied using chemical weapons.
The Syrian state agency, SANA, has said that recent reports of chemical gun attacks are the invention of rebels from the Yaish al-Islam group, who control the city and Dumas.
Russian news agencies have quoted General Yuri Yevtushenko as saying he denies “with determination<x1) large-scale those charges.
