Facebook can be fined $1 billion

The three officials, who were on the Federal Trade Commission during the privacy investigations that led to the adoption of a Facebook decree in 2011, have said the company's recent scandal could be a violation of provisions of the decree that may require implementation of a privacy programme, Time.net broadcasts.

The written decree requires Facebook to identify and address new threats to user privacy, says David Vladeck, who was head of the FTC Bureau for Consumer Protection when the decree was drafted and signed by Facebook.

He predicts Facebook could be fined $1 billion or even more because of the Users' illegal data distribution scandal with political consultancy “Cambridge Analytica”
