Son of Gjave, Hoxha played in the '80s at the Brotherhood Team before moving to Prizren Freedom. In 1991, Kosovo's football player was declared.
When the war began, Hoxha had returned to Gjakova, where she lived with her wife, parents, grandparents, and two children in a house behind the city bus station.
Shortly after midnight on April 28th, the Hoxha family woke up at the sound of the Serbian Army that had just broken the door to the house. They dragged down the street, just as they had done before with other families on that cold night.
Hoxha didn't see what happened to his family after a gun to his head forced him to climb face to face. Then the questions began.
One of the soldiers, the man carrying the gun, began asking in Russian. Hoxha came to understand what was being said and responded to the person asking what work she was doing as a profession. Being unable to answer in Russian, he says only two words:
“Oleg Blockin. ”
The Russian soldier's name reminded him of Ukrainian legend, winner of the Golden Ball, and player of the representative of the Soviet Union. Now there were no language divisions between Hodge and the Russian. The soldier was interested.
Put down the gun, put Genc Hodge back out of the apartment and ask her in a running Serbian:
“Yes” answers Hoxha.
I don't want to kill a footballer. Now I'm gonna shoot you twice in the air and you're gonna lie on the ground. Stay like that for 10 minutes and then get out of here. ”
For a moment Hoxha was silent. “A can search for my family”, ask.
If you want to live, do as I say! ”
Russia shot into the sky of Gjakova, Hoxha lay on the ground listening to the soldier's steps as he left. He also managed to hear dialogue between the Russian soldier and his Serbian colleagues.
“You finished”, ask one of them. “
The following minutes and hours were turbulent. After applying the instructions of the Russian soldier, Genc Hoxha began searching for his family.
Many houses were burned, including Hodge's, the man you spared only because he knew Oleg Block.
In a few hours, the Serbian Army killed 372 people.
I hit some of my neighbors and set off on our way to Albania. Fortunately, I found my family in a crowd where people would cry and embrace...”
