Murder Scene
After the middle of July 21st, 1924, about 2 thousand soldiers associated with 12 Yugoslav Army cannons arrived in Kosovo, attacking the villages of Galica, Micusnica and Labbavec. The goal was mass annihilation of Albanians who had resisted Serbian power.
Among them was the murder of Azem Galica and his men, so the siege of his tower was the most important part of the plan of the attack. But while unprepared, the resistance of Azem Galica and all his troops supported by the entire population of the area was heroic. During the fighting, a bullet struck him in the right shoulder, but the wound was not heavy and he continued fighting even though he was wounded.
After eight hours of fighting with 84 brave men killed against 94 Serbs killed, Azem Galica with his wife, Shoten, and the braves manage to find a way to avoid siege. It was 4: 00 a.m. on July 22, 1924, when two gendarmes were following him, shooting at him.
Another bullet struck the chain of spare bullets held in its belt, causing several rounds of gunpowder to explode, bringing serious damage to its spine. From this moment on, Azem Galica was paralyzed.
Situated in this situation, his friends transported him to a stretcher prepared with circular tools. After three days of traveling with several stops, Azem Galica died in the hands of his fellow fighters and Chhote's wife. It was 0600 on July 25 when he gave up his final trust.
Azem and Serbia
To better understand who it was and how heavy it was with Azem Galica is enough to bring a statement by Kosovo MP Jovan Magovcevic to the Belgrade Parliament on 11 October 1923 irritability to his activity.
” sirs, I have two votes, one as the regular deputy of the People's Assembly and one as the foreign deputy of the state of Azem Galica”.
Europe's large political and diplomatic circles spoke of the war in small Arbury.
The press of that time had its rawness.
In the desperate fight that was fought, 150 Albanians were played. Some of these guys have come to Krum... Of course Azem is unknown where he is. ”
It is noteworthy that at this point, the call seemed to be ringing today:
Wait Azem Galica”!
A cave tomb in a memorial complex
It was one of Azem Galica's embryos to be buried in a safe, secret, and deep place so that Serbs could not find his body.
His wife and friends buried him in a place where she would stay for 47 years. In the 720 - foot - deep [73 m] Cave “Cuku, which leaps from Mount Pervevo's “, its tomb is more like that of Pharaohs of ancient Egypt.
In 1974 the bones were removed from there and buried in the family's grave in Galica.
It would be 96 years before the bones and tomb of Azem Galica received the honor it deserved. On August 19, 2016, the state of Kosovo performed official honor, the most dignified of its hero.
As the remains of Azem Galica were buried for the second time, participants in the ceremony witnessed a hero believing that Kosovo would one day be independent and freed from Serbian bonds.
Isa Boletini, Azem Galica, Adem Jashar
The three symbol heroes of Kosovo have a strange link between them. In 1909 as Kosovo rebels marched on horses in Drenica to fight against Serbs, Isa Boletin was impressed by a 20-year-old boy who led his mighty men many times older than he was.
After asking who he was and the attendants told him he was the son of Bayta Galica, Isa Boletin approached him and said:
Good boy. You decided to take your father's dying wish, his lufty path. My heart grew high, because Bata didn't die”
On July 25, 1990, as he bowed respectfully to the tomb of Azem Galica, Adem Jashar vowed to continue his course of freedom in his name.
Isa Boletini, Azem Galica and Adem Jashari were killed by Serbs, returning to symbol of the war for freedom.
