AKR's Haradinaj in search of settlement following Sefaj's departure from office

The New Kosovo coalition, which is a partner in the ruling coalition, has announced that Flamur Sefaj, from the ranks of this party, has resigned from the post of Minister of Internal Affairs in the Government of Kosovo. Sefaj's resignation comes after his release from office on the part of Kosovo Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj, following the operation for the arrest and deportation of six Turkish citizens from Kosovo authorities, for which operation, Kosovo's prime minister, has said he was not informed.

The release of Sefaj's post with Prime Minister Haradinaj's decision had put Kosovo Government in the face of a challenge to overcome eventual problems with the ruling coalition partner, the New Kosovo Alliance.

The latter, during Tuesday day, had given positive signals that its participation in the ruling coalition would be preserved.

Vesel Makolli, deputy minister in the Kosovo government from Alliance of New Kosovo, has earlier told Radio Free Europe that the first Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Behgjet Pacolli, also AKR leader, has talked with Prime Minister Haradinaj, to come to a decision that will clarify the future of governance.

“We are liberal institutional democratic parties. We are a party that has even sacrificed its interest in forming this government. So we're going to see now that we're going to get out of this situation that we shouldn't have to come in, say the right thing, because it's about a minister who's been among the best and has been committed to work. We will look at all possibilities, and this has gone to the level of prime minister and deputy prime minister, either party president Behgjet Pacolli, who will certainly find a solution that will satisfy both sides”, Makolli said.

On the other hand, Prime Minister Haradinaj's decision, as well as to free Kosovo Intelligence Agency head Driton Gashi, has not yet received a reconciliation from the country's president Hashim Thaci.

Last Friday, during a speech to Kosovo Assembly deputies, Prime Minister Haradinaj said the duty of AKI director Driton Gashi and Interior Minister Flamur Sefaj are irreversible decisions.

But President Hashim Thaci, who has equal competencies in the appointment and dismissal of the head of the Kosovo Intelligence Agency, has been presented more reserved in terms of this decision.

From President Thaci's office, they have refused to confirm or comment whether the head of state agrees with Haradinaj's decision to release, respectively, the AKI chief's dismissal.

The recogniser of political developments in the country, Artan Mujarır, estimates that Serbian President Thaci's default for Prime Minister Haradinaj's decision concerning the release of the AKI leader's office, explains reports between the two powers.

If Thaci doesn't fire the chief of AKI, then he will take over all the sins of this event. So it will be witnessed as the person who initiated it and carried out this shameful act”, Muhramir said.

However, according to him, if President Thaci does not approve the release of the AKI leader's office, it will be a blow to the Government of Kosovo as well.

“This will be a big blow to him (Prime Minister Haradinaj) and his government cabinet, because the prime minister will have to work even further with a person who has an extremely important position, who does not trust him and has dismissed the jury, but not even APUE facto. So, we will have a disorder in the chain of relations between Government and AKI, and this will be extremely harmful to the safety of Kosovo and Kosovo citizens in general”, Muhrami stressed.

Otherwise, Prime Minister Hradinaj's decision to sack the interior minister and AKI leader has publicly supported Democratic Party of Kosovo chairman Kadri Veselini, who on Friday declared the dismissal was expected after Thursday's developments, when Turkish citizens with valid permission were deported without the knowledge of the highest heads of state.
