The number of new businesses in Kosovo has scored for the first two months of 2018.
Compared to last year's completion of 9 thousand and 335 thousand registered businesses, this year the first figures signal their reduction. This, based on the Agency for Business Recording data sent to Indexline.
One month last January 840 registered businesses, while this year 832 businesses. The same with February, where 859 businesses were registered last year, in the same period in 2018, 851 businesses were registered, writes Indexline.
A total of 9 thousand new businesses were registered last year. Of them, they were mostly in the majority and retail sector; repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles, where nearly 3 thousand, exactly 2,954 were registered.
After that, the processing industry ranks with 1,117 businesses, writes Indexline. As for agriculture, forestry, and fishing, there are 9,000 businesses that deal with this activity.
Lulzim Beqiri, the expert on economic issues for Indexline, has indicated that the political situation is one of the factors that have influenced your high business registration.
“Janar and February 2018 has resulted in smaller numbers of registering new businesses compared to the registered businesses of 2017 in the same period. Here some important elements must be understood, basically the months of the beginning of the year are always more predisposed with the smaller number of business registrations, but in my opinion the main reason for such a small number of businesses is the political situation in the country, this has been so much impacted by not willing to enter a” business adventure has said Beqiri.
He added that political developments significantly influence citizens not to want to open businesses -- that is, because of political instability.
A situation where in every national and international media Kosovo is represented as a destabilised country then who takes the courage and opens up business in such a country, who can trust us to be our business partner in the future. There are other reasons that I think are of minors compared to what I mentioned, one reason is the lack of electricity supply, high interest, organised crime, and up to the informal economy, all gave an additional motive to a Kosovo entrepreneur not to invest in Kosovo” he said of Indexline.
