The Grand Hotel, in Kosovo's capital, in Pristina, is regularly reviled when it is conducted on the internet, writes The New York Times.

Various “Perhaps the worst I've ever stayed in, the words used for this hotel, the prestigious daily points out.

But managers don't seem worried about what they're talking about, says NYT. The paper shows how “s don't accept Internet reservations and even offer internet access; their hotel doesn't even have email”.

<x0.>Example of modern optimism when this part of the Balkans was still part of the former Yugoslavia, Grandi, state property, has taken such a big downward point that even Kosovo President Hashim Thaci, usually a strong supporter of everything the country offers, has a hard time finding a good word to say for it”, writes New York Times.

I don't think that's the worst hotel in the world, but this is because the world is too big”, Thaci said about NYT, expressing his disbelief when journalist Andrew Higgins told him he was standing there.

Grande's general manager, Beatdown Fazliu, has admitted that the hotel probably no longer deserves the five-star rating it received when it was built in 1978, writes NYT.

The paper shows that he has estimated that, “with little changes”, Grandi can become “a symbol of success”, for a country that, as NYT says, “still is not getting well, nearly 20 years after a NATO bomber campaign broke Serbia's control in the troubled” region.

Grandi is “Kosovo's mirror”, Fazliu said of NYT. The “Image reflected here these days is evidently less tempting than hoped, when the country had reached freedom in 1999”, writes the New York newspaper.

NYT shows that the “service is minimal, but not to say so; the marble lobby smells like cigarettes; and the green carpets, which cover the floor, are stained and torn. Then there's buba”.

However, says the paper, Grandi deserves better recession than the ones he takes online. The rooms, NYT says, are kept relatively clean, and offer hot water from time to time.

The president, who has only bad memories from the hotel in the past, who regrets his current situation, has big plans for his future, writes the paper.

“Maybe we can build a Trump Tower here”, Thaci suggested.

NYT writes that Grandi was put up for sale in 2006, as part of a programme for privatisation of former Yugoslavia property.

It was purchased by a suspicious local company that paid only 8m euros, but promised, as part of the deal, that it would invest 20m euros in”, NYT shows.

The promised investment was never made, reports the New York daily, and in 2012 The Kosovo Privatisation Agency cancelled the sale of é and kept the money it took.

“Plants to find another buyer were later contained in a long legal battle after Behgjet Pacolli, a Swiss billionaire, originally from Kosovo who is now the country's foreign minister, warned that his company was suing the government for the first sale of”, NYT reports.

“Hoteli is now in liquidation, and its assets -- which include a valuable collection of modern art -- will be put on sale or taken to a museum so that a new buyer can be found, and that the hotel will be renovated by zeros”, the paper writes.

Pacolli, says NYT, estimates that to make Grand Grand grand again, it will take at least 50m euros.

This hotel, according to him, may not be the worst in the world, but it is from the bottom. It's a terrible “, he said NYT. “How can you stay there? How can anyone stay there?
