A South Korean delegation visiting North Korea met with the leader of this country, Kim Jong Un, a spokesman for the southeastern presidency, announced.
The 10-member delegation, led by South Korea's Office for National Security head Chung Eui-yong, has arrived at Phenjan this morning, while there has been lunch with Kim later, the spokesman told reporters.
This is the first time an official southeastern delegation has met Kim.
After the visit, Seoul's envoys will travel to the United States.
US President Donald Trump has said last month that talks with Phenjani can only develop “under appropriate conditions”.
Speaking on March 3rd, Trump has said that the United States can meet with the North, but that Phenyan must first be deregulated.
The US and North Korea last year have been trading threats repeatedly because of the Phenjan nuclear programme.
The latter carried out some missile and nuclear evidence.
