In Indonesia's Tanjung Lawar village, there are about 200 species of sharks, but only one of them, the type of whale sharks is fully protected by the government.
Commercial shark exports bring more than $100 million to the state of Indonesia. Skin, bones, and meat are the parts most required, where the state of China is the biggest buyer. With shark parts, the Chinese cook the soup claimed to be the secret to a long life.
In a small fishing village in Tynung Lawar in Lombok, hundreds of fishermen ensure their existence from shark hunts, reports “Al Jazeera”, the Periscope broadcast.
In 2014, the government imposed a ban on the export of sharks (the hammer) and white ocean - type sharks, but fishermen complained that it affected their income.
Environmentalists believe, however, that the regulation of shark protection laws is not enough, and in this regard very little is becoming. Fifteen years it takes for a shark to be born.
Muchlis, of the Nature Conservation Society, has been monitoring the situation in Tanjung Lung since 2015, and numbers and size of capture are coming down every year./Periscopi/
