According to the decision of Albania's institutions, of April 15th anyone crossing the “nation's path” is obliged to pay five euros a drive, while 10 euros for heavy vehicles.
Lekaj, in an interview for the newspaper “The new era” has said that Kosovo institutions have not had an announcement regarding this decision.
He has suggested that after this decision, he has requested a meeting with Albanian Infrastructure and Energy Minister Damian Gjiknuri.
“The process of imposing the National Road tax is a topic that has been discussed in public for some time, but notice or discussion between the two ministries or even between me and Minister Gjiknouri has not had”, Lekaj said.
The minister has stressed that this tax is unaffordable.
Kosovo's physical and legal persons, which circulate daily, I don't believe they can afford this price for a long time because, according to our estimates, it's a high price”, Lekaj has said, adding that priorly it had to become a consultation between the two states.
The roads are to connect cities, states and peoples, so even when we make decisions about such things, as we now have the case with the road fee, we need to consult each other because, after all, if for nothing else, we are two absolute states of the same population”, Lekaj has said.
