Putin's appeal was posted on the Kremlin site.
We in Russia have always decided our destiny, we have done things consciously, understanding truth and justice. Our love for our homeland has guided us. This is in our national character, which is also known in the world”, Putin said.
The elections in Russia are held at the time when this country's relations with the West are at the lowest level since the Cold War.
The sides differ over issues such as Russia's aggression in Ukraine, its role in the Syria war and its alleged intervention in US presidential elections in 2016.
In total, there are eight candidates for presidential elections in Russia, but Putin is said to have a secure victory.
