About 12 years after the establishment of the Kosovo Police Inspectorate as an independent police institution, its credibility has been hit by successive scandals.
Politics, through interest groups, has split this important institution in half. Instead of the IPK becoming Kosovo Police regulator, this institution has been transformed into a place where “the interest group's figure “currently writes “Koha Ditore”.
Political influence has been seen since the managerial selection phase in this institution. Depending on who led the Ministry of Internal Affairs has appointed the leader of this institution, regardless of professional and integrity skills.
The IPK has failed for 12 years to break off the police chain as an independent institution. Instead of following lawbreakers within the police, the institution has made amnesty of powerful officials by deepening the crisis more and increasing the number of abuses occurring in the first major security and justice link, such as the Kosovo Police.
This, according to law system connoisseurs, was the goal of the policy of converting IPK into a tool through which the Kosovo Police control it.
