According to the Associated Press, four armed men entered a hospital in the tourist town of Cancuni, and shot Alfonso Contreras Espinoza and his wife to death.
In fact, Espinosis, known as “El Pontiuso” was arrested last July on charges of illegal possession. He was allowed to be treated in a private hospital under surveillance for several foot problems.
“El Pontiuso” was suspected to be the leader of the drug operations at Cancun Bay cartel.
“This could be a reckoning break between drug gangs”, police said after the attack.
According to local media, it is suspected that the violent cartel “Jalisco” is behind the attack since last year, destroying all other gangs.
