EU Commissioner for Good Neighborship and Enlargement Johannes Hahn has talked about relations between Kosovo and Serbia, and the importance of these reports on the two countries' membership in the European Union.
In an interview for “Deutche Welle”, Hahn has said that the topic of Kosovo is a very sensitive topic in Serbia and that Serbian opinion and public should be used to the fact that without finding a final solution with Kosovo there is no membership in the European Union.
Kosovo's <x0me is a sensitive topic in Serbia, we have published the new strategy for enlargement, in which we have specified that all states that want to join, first have to resolve their conflicts and uncertainties, and they need to know that this applies to both Kosovo and Serbia, therefore it is necessary to form a judicial agreement between Kosovo and Serbia, normally that will require many meetings between the parties, and Serbian opinion should be prepared for that. Serbia's president in this case is taking responsibility for himself, but he also has risks charging him” said Hahn.
Hahn added that this applies to Kosovo and its aspirations for membership in the European Union, noting that there should be only dialogue without any outcome, but it is very important that this dialogue produce something positive for both sides, and that is vital for Kosovo's EU perspective.
“I hope Pristina authorities realise that this is true for them, it is important that Kosovo becomes clear that the talks have a positive epilogue, and also Kosovo's perspective in the EU depends on this” ended Hahn.
