European Union countries (BE) have signed an agreement to release frequencies that will be used for 5G services for the next 20 years, a bloc's effort to follow the steps of the United States of America and China in launching Internet-related products, Telegrafi writes.
The ETNO lobbie group, part of which are Orange, Telekom and Telecom Italy, have criticised the deal, saying it is not ambitious and a 25-year agenda was necessary.
The interim agreement came after months of bickering among EU governments seeking to preserve a lucrative source of revenue and telecommunications providers seeking new ways to increase profits.
Under the deal, 5G will be available along the bloc by 2020, with the spectrum guaranteed for a minimum of 20 years.
