“Der Standard”: Germany prevents Thaci, Vuciqi plan for partitioning Kosovo

The incoming newspaper “Der Standard“has written about Kosovo's partition talks. According to this upcoming daily, the Germans have prevented partitioning Kosovo, which Serbs have favoured but also the Kosovo side due to fatigue in Kosovo's north issue. This, according to diplomats, has also led Berlin to intervene. But an official, [...]
Der Standard writes that the idea of partitioning Kosovo is already running around this idea most promoted by Serbian Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic.
“He has called for partitioning Kosovo into the Serbian and Albanian part“, the paper recalls.
This would mean de facto that the northern part of Kosovo, where Serbs mostly live, would be separated from Kosovo. Dacic even called this a longer-term and more realistic solution. Vuciq also did not oppose the idea and lobbied to keep all options on the table. In fact, Vuciq and Thaci are in close contact and make regular phone calls. Although partitioning Kosovo would be in clear contradiction to the Kosovo Constitution, many Kosovo Albanians are tired of the eternal issue of the northern Kosovo North, and some see the session of northern Kosovo as a way to finally solve the” problem, writes Der Standard.
This would bring about the entire construction of multiethnic Kosovo. That is why the German government intervened“, the paper further writes.
A diplomat was then quoted as showing that Vuciqi and Thaci were made clear not to touch the subject.
“In the background it has become clear not to discuss the issue of borders“has said the diplomat.
“But there is danger that the two sides (Thaci and Vuciq) will communicate on this other ways“are further said in the article.
Vucinq, the newspaper writes, has understood Berlin's message.
Kosovo's “Pala still has problems defining its goals”, it is further said in writing.
Whatever it is, there are forces that have looked to the Presevo Valley. There have also been discussions on exchange of territories. The theme appeared, and it appeared because Mogher's team publicly did not set out clear red lines and made no clear what could come up on the table and what no”, Der Standard points out.
For the EU, it is important to have a final document, not a temporary agreement that will be legally binding on the international level and that does not leave topics open. They do not want a second Cyprus within the EU“.
For this reason, Serbia must recognise its neighbouring state border with this agreement and must pre-advanced Serbia to go to Kosovo for membership in international organisations, such as the UN and the EU in the future“.
