US President Donald Trump and British Prime Minister Theresa May agreed today that Russia and Syria are responsible for the tragic human suffering in the rebel-controlled enclave in the eastern part of the town of Ghouta, near the capital of Damascus.
According to Prime Minister May's office, the two leaders held a telephone conversation about the terrible humanitarian situation near the Syrian capital, while the Syrian Human Rights Observatory announced that Syrian forces have taken control of a quarter of the eastern Ghouta.
The “Ra agreed that it is a humanitarian catastrophe, and that the major responsibility for human suffering lies with the Syrian regime and Russia, which is the main supporter of this” regime, is said in a statement by Mrs. May's office. There was no statement from the White House right after the call.
According to Mrs. May's office, together with President Trump, it was agreed “that Russia and other influential actors over the Syrian regime must act immediately to stop the campaign of violence and protect civilians”.
Responding to these criticisms, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad vowed today that the military offensive against the rebels in eastern Ghoutan will continue. His comments were broadcast through Syrian state television. / VOA.
