I want Lipa has confessed to her life and last period in Kosovo, in an interview with the weekly American magazine “Rolingstone”
In this interview, Lipa says that as an adult, she learned better what work means. Born in London, she comes from an Albanian family from Kosovo who had left the country when the country was involved in the conflict.
Her parents were immigrants to Great Britain, who “worked in restaurants and cafe”, she says.
“They worked hard, really hard, and while they were working, my father went to school to get a business degree, then a master in journalism, then he started doing advertising. And when we moved to London, my mother studied tourism”.
Music has conveyed the Lipa family thanks to her father, who had sung in a Kosovo group called Oda.
“They [the Oda group] played for entertainment,” says I want Lipa, “but then they had done a really well-known song called "Beso in Sun. I held a concert in Kosovo two years ago and decided to surprise my father and sing this song together. It was quite surreal, because everyone in the audience sang together”.
In her early teens, Lipa had returned to live in Kosovo's capital, Pristina: “I could speak the language, but I couldn't read and write well, so this move was discouraging ʹ other children didn't make spelling mistakes in their homework, and not just this, but just by being a young girl at school, because they had all formed their friendships<1>
Lipa will return to Kosovo to hold a concert on August 10th this year.
