According to the “Wall Street Journal” report, the US plan is to postpone military presence in the Eastern Pacific with the deployment of the Navy Express Unit (MEU).
MEU is a group made up of about 2, 200 marines operating in the context of amphibious attacks, planes, tanks, heavy weapons, and other military equipment.
A typical deployment lasts seven months and may include offshore missions such as patrols or military training, reports “RT” Transmission Periscope.
The report, citing military officials, does not say how many MEU will be sent to the region. The US already has about 50,000 service members in Japan, almost 30,000 in South Korea and 7,000 more in Guam.
In this move, the Pentagon will increase the number of Marines in Darwin, Australia. At the moment, 1, 250 troops are deployed there in the next training duties that last six months each year./Periscopi/
