The Western Balkans, which include Kosovo from now on, will be involved in the coalition deal in Germany.
This coalition after a long time has been reached between re-elected Chancellor Angela Merkel and Martin Shulz.
The deal reached between Chancellor Merkel's Christian Democrats and the Shultz Social Democrats details everything in German foreign policy.
It also concerns Germany's commitment to the Western Balkans, whose six countries are loved by the German government in the European Union, but in advance they must meet certain conditions.
“We stand by the prospect of entering the European Union of the Western Balkans. It is a condition for the countries of the region (Kosovo, Montenegro, Albania, Macedonia, Serbia and Bosnia), that on the way to opening membership negotiations or membership in the EU meet the previous conditions. The overall and irreversible reform in the making of rule of law, the fight against organised crime and corruption is in particular. We are ready to help the Western Balkans in this” effort more than ever, says the coalition government document, which is led by Angela Merkel.
For university professor Dashnim Ismaili, this approach to Balkan countries by the most powerful country in Europe is expected and very positive for Kosovo.
He says Angela Merkel's remnant in power is very positive and in Kosovo's best interests.
