He said that despite diaspora members having different political views, it is intended to promote actions to help the interests of the community. My aim, he said, is to help the diaspora preserve identity, educate children and learn Albanian.
Majko said that in New York, thanks to the interest of local power and diaspora lobbies, the school will be taught by bilinguals: Albanian will be taught in English and that there is hope that this service will enter other American states.
Minister Majko said cultural centres of Albanians have begun to be established in the United States, thanks to the diaspora's financial contributions, but added that the government of Albania and Kosovo will also contribute to these projects. He said the establishment of these centres will continue, according to the model set up by businessman Richard Lukaj in New York.
The Albanian diaspora minister said that in Albania the government has recently adopted the law for the National Diaspora Agency, which will be an agency in the function of diaspora interests. The law is expected to pass by Parliament soon.
Mr. Majko added that the Albanian government has started working for a bill that will be linked to a fund for diaspora development.
He said the diaspora have an extraordinary human and intellectual asset, but the secret to working with the diaspora lies in the way of communication with communities abroad. Minister Majko said he is trying to create in the Albanian administration a good atmosphere for investors from the diaspora, after that administration has learned to work only with investors from Albania.
Mr. Majko also talked about the need for free movement of people and goods between Albania and Kosovo.
The question of the diaspora's request to publish in Albania's elections, he answered that the institution he heads is co-operating with the Venice Commission, with the OSCE, and civil society for the realisation of this diaspora wish.
